Jo Lynne Kirkwood - Cowboy Poet

Poet - Jo Lynne Kirkwood

Audiences will find themselves laughing, and sometimes crying, to tales of cowboy and country life, trials, tribulations, and comedy. It’s tough to be a farmer’s wife, and Jo Kirkwood’s stories share insights into the real-life experiences of ranching and farming in Central Utah, where she and her husband raise fruit, calves, and small bale alfalfa hay. While most of her stories are original and based on her life as a farm & ranch wife, she is also well-versed in the classics of old-time cowboy poetry, and shares yarns from the great poets of yesterday as well as the modern dilemmas and celebrations of rural Utah life today.
Jo has won awards including AWA Female Poet of the year, the Gail I Gardner Award, the Utah Pioneer Heritage Award, Utah’s Pioneer Award (Days of ‘47), and Lariat Laureate from CowboyPoetry.com, among others. Along with her CDs and books, her poems have been published in anthologies and magazines, and are often included in online and radio broadcasts. Jo Kirkwood has been sharing her Cowboy Poetry and stories at gatherings and events across the west for years. She hosted the Cowboy Poetry stage at the Heber Valley Cowboy Poetry and Western Music festival for more than a dozen years, and has co-produced two other significant Utah gatherings as well as a variety of other concerts, shows and events.
