9-11 BRINGS COWBOYS AND YOUTH TOGETHER

Cowboy Poets, Western Musicians, And Youth Of Promise

The disasters of September 11, 2001 have brought together Cowboy Poets of Utah, Western Music Association Utah Chapter, and Youth of Promise to host a benefit cowboy gathering on October 21, 2006, at the Davis County Fair Grounds and Legacy Center, located at 151 South 1100 West, in Farmington, Utah.

The “Utah High Country Gathering” is a full day of cowboy poetry, western music, and unique western vendors.  The day’s activities will begin at 9:00 am and end with a western barn dance from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm.

Invited performers and musical groups include Colen Sweeten, Stampede, Don Kennington, In Cahoots, Jo Lynne Kirkwood, Blue Sage, Fred  Engle, Johnson Creek, J. P. Carson, Bill Chiles, Phil Kennington, Jessica Robb, Brooksie (Jerry Brooks), Old Leather, Sam Deleeuw, The Mormon Battalion, C. R. Wood, Marion Manwill, Val Carter, Kenny Hall, Stan Tixier, C. W. Bell, Gary Fulton, Casey Woods, Laurie Tye, and Bill Gubler.

A five-dollar entry fee will offset the necessary expenses connected to the event and allow access to all the days activities.  Additional donations made during the event will help raise the required funds to begin construction on a 9-11 memorial park to be located on donated land next to interstate I-15 at the Utah Botanical Center in Kaysville, Utah.

This memorial park was conceived and in large part designed by members of the Davis County chapter of a youth service organization called “Youth of Promise”.  It will serve as a community-teaching memorial where the heroes and victims of the 9-11 disasters will be honored and remembered.  It will also be a continuing place of honor for the fallen servicemen from Utah who have served in the “War on Terror”.

This million-dollar project has had a lot of support from local businesses and individuals but another one hundred eighty thousand dollars still needs to be gathered before construction can begin.

Construction of this memorial park will need to begin by the first of 2007 to be completed in time for its target dedication date, September 11 2007.
